Students--Current and Perspective

This was a super-fun recital to close the 2016-2017 school year! (feauturing students from MK Piano studio, Alexandra Tsirkel, Lydia Kotlova and Tatiana Keylin). Each year, the studio offers two major recitals at a featured facility, a piano party, group classes, concert outings and other events. Each student is encouraged to participate in MTNA (Snohomish or Eastside chapter) events, festivals, adjudications, and more!

Beginning/Elementary.

At this stage, students will learn the basics--geography of keyboard, rhythm/counting, basic notation, playing by ear, practice habits, etc. The special attention is paid to healthy technique and hand positioning. Technology and games are a part of this curriculum! Materials/methods--Tales of musical Journey (I. Gorin), Piano Pronto (J. Eklund), Piano Safari, Piano Adventures (Fabers), and others. Fun supplementary materials are provided and games are essential part of every lesson!

Intermediate
Intermediate-level pianists are now capable of adding some more extensive classical masterworks to their repertoire. Bach's preludes/inventions, sonatinas, early romantic repertoire is explored and supplemented by contemporary, popular or jazz pieces, according to student's interests and preferences. More time is now spent on theory/history topics. Students will be participating in a variety of events--MTNA adjudications, festivals, and competitions.

Advanced
By this time, the student will develop much expansive command of the instrument (and greater musicianship overall). The repertoire will include compositions such WTC by J.S. Bach, Beethoven and Mozart Sonatas, pieces by Chopin, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Debussy, and other giants of piano literature. Besides participating in many events and festivals, students can prepare for college auditions and become student teachers on their own, mentored by Ms. Khavin.
